Architected Biomaterials & Mechanics Laboratory

We focus on the intersection of advanced cellular structures, materials science, and biomedical engineering. By leveraging mathematically defined Triply Periodic Minimal Surface (TPMS) geometries, we engineer porous structures that match the mechanical, biological, and transport properties of natural human tissues.

  • TPMS & Lattice Architectures: Algorithmic design and multi-scale optimization of smooth, pore-interconnected TPMS structures (Gyroid, Diamond, Primitive) to eliminate stress concentrations.

  • Mechanical Characterization: Static, dynamic, and fatigue testing under complex loading conditions, backed by high-fidelity FEA simulations.

  • Biomaterials & Tissue Scaffolds: Designing biocompatible implants that promote cell ingrowth, optimize permeability, and minimize stress shielding.

  • Additive Manufacturing: Laser powder bed fusion (LPBF) and high-resolution 3D printing of metallic and polymeric architected biomaterials.
